A Glamorous Hippie

BIO: Chinyere Wami; 24; says “Southern California is my sunrise and where I was partially raised, until my family and I made the big move to Atlanta, Georgia. The last couple years of my life has been spent in turmoil trying to figure out ‘who is Chinyere Wami’. I was torn between fulfilling what my parents expected of me due to our rigorous Nigerian background, and just being my own free spirit. Surprise, surprise I chose to dance to the beat of my own drum. As you navigate through my personal journey I hope that it will inspire you to enjoy, embrace and ensue the beat of your own drum.” Check out my interview with Chinyere below and some of her favorite looks!

1. What is your full name

Chinyere Nwanyibueku Wami

2. Where were you born & raised? Did your upbringing have an early influence on you dressing the way you do now?

I was born in Los Angeles California.  My family and I moved to Atlanta in 2005 and have been here ever since, however I think its safe to say I was brought up in both states. My upbringing did have a lot to do with how I dress now; I was brought up in a huge family consisting of 5 sisters and 1 brother. Being one of the youngest of so many girls left me with a lot of hand me downs and I was forced to make the best of those that were given to me. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make my hand me downs look as fashionable as possible. On top of that, one of the chores that was assigned to me was to pick my mothers outfit out for church and make sure it was ironed and ready to go on Sunday morning, I never really realized how much loved doing that, it didn’t feel like a chore to me.

3. Define Fashion? And how would you describe your personal style?

Fashion- expressing your identity, or showing someone who you are by dressing up. My personal style can vary depending on how I am feeling that day, I can be classy and chic one day and the next day I can look like a cute hippie, it really all depends on where I am going and how I feel, there’s just no telling.

4. What do you think the current and future fashion trends are for men & women?

Well its 2015 the trend right now is to have your own style, everyone wants to stand out. Everyone seems to be wearing the same things, but adding their own twist, which is great. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t, some people try so hard to stand out that they end up fitting right in, that’s the irony of todays trend. As for future trends, that’s the fun thing about fashion you never know what’s next. Sometimes the new trend can be something that is coming back out from the past or sometimes and can be something new making its debut.

5. Who are some people in the Fashion Industry that you look up to for guidance, and ways to enhance your craft?

Man, there are so many people that I follow in the fashion industry, too many to count, but I will name a few, June Ambrose, the Kardashian sisters, Marjorie Harvey, Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, Ciara has definitely being doing her thing when it comes to fashion, and countless instagram bloggers like “Thedaileigh, Amrezy, Karla_Deras, Layllahstyle, the list goes on.

6. What are 3 words that you would use to describe yourself and the brand you are trying to create? Why?

Well three words that I would use to describe myself, 1. Classy, 2. Risky, 3. Passionate. I believe that as a female, you should always keep it CLASSY no matter what. Sometimes I like to break the rules of fashion, mix patterns, show more skin than usual, wear oversized clothing and be RISKY. Finally I really do have a PASSION for all things fashion and beauty, I just want people to see me and see a girl who loves to look good, I feel that my love for style speaks for itself and it naturally brands me, fashion is who I am.

7. How can people get in contact with you via email or social media outlets?
