It is no secret that men have been dominating the comedic industry for many decades. It takes an exceptional talent to produce jokes for both men and women to laugh at. Making people laugh on a consistent basis is not an easy task, but @CallMeSkitzo does it effortlessly. She continues to break barriers as an African American woman, making us laugh each day with a following of over 133k on Instagram. There is no doubt that @CallMeSkitzo has an undeniable talent, and is a force to reckon with. One video at a time, with her numerous facial expressions, @CallMeSkitzo captures her audience with relatable content. Q. What is your “real name”? How did the name ” CallMeSkitzo” originate?
A. My real name is Chika. I used to DJ about 3 years ago and was trying to find a dj name that suited my spontaneous personality and a friend helped me come up with “Skitzo” hence “Callmeskitzo”
Q. Where were you born and raised?
A. I was born and raised in Houston Texas, but I am Nigerian.
Q. Did your upbringing have an early influence on you wanting to entertain others and make them laugh?
A. I’ve naturally loved entertaining people since I can remember. I felt that I was the glue that held my family together, and I did that through entertainment. Whether it be through jokes, or drawn out exaggerated stories about how my day went. As long as it brought a smile, it made me happy.
Q. What made you start making videos for Instagram?
A. I first purchased my canon for photography, but I’ve always secretly wanted to be behind the camera. So one day I asked my friend to help me record my first video. I edited it and posted and got quite a good reaction. That motivated me to continue down this path.
Q. Where do you get your material from? Are you selective about the type of videos you produce for the public?
A. I always stick to real-life experiences that I’ve either been through or have seen someone close to me deal with. I feel that you never run out of ideas that way. Also, I realize that being a woman in comedy I have a certain responsibility to put out positive media that isn’t demeaning or degrading or overtly sexual. It sends the message that you don’t have to do the most for people to support you.
Q. Do you work well under pressure ?
A. As a matter of fact I do. I feel that the best videos happen when I know I have to deliver
Q. Who are some people in the industry that you might look up to, for guidance, and ways to enhance your craft?
A. I definitely look up to Kevin Hart.
Q. What are 3 words that you would use to describe yourself and your brand? And Why?
A. Authentic, Diverse, out of the box. I feel that people can see through BS so I always stay true to who I am. What you see is what you get. Diverse because I never try to stray from my culture. Throughout my instagram you will find pictures of me in traditional attire or even videos about my culture, and lastly out of the box because I don’t want to be like anyone else. I do my best to come up with ideas that are not already prevalent in comedy.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A. I hopefully will be on some sort of sitcom or comedy show or maybe even a movie.
Q. Are there any major projects that you are currently working on, that you would like people to be aware of ?
A. Right now a web series called 427.
Q. Is there anything that you would like readers to know about you, that you have not said already?
A. I’m as real as it gets. I’m just a regular girl that fell in love with entrainment. I’m authentic and only know how to stay true to myself.
